Hi everyone this is Gomer he was found on a very busy road about 11 days ago and has a broken hip.He is uncomfortable and in pain and needs our help ASAP!Gomer is one of the dogs that was in danger at the Good Sheperd Sanctuary!We believe has a broken leg or a broken hip and needs immediate surgery, please help us help Gomer.
When Gomer was at the sanctuary a women that want it to take him took him to her vet, with the permission of Maggie,the so called vet want it to charge the sanctuary at the time $ 5,000.00 for a surgery that he didn't even took an x-ray to see what was wrong!!!!SOME VET!!!
Gomer will be taken to see our vet , hopefully this week, were Doctor Wise will take proper X-rays and determine afterwards what it can be done for him, it is obvious by the pictures that this boy will need surgery of some sort.I will try to get Gomer and appointment with our vet for tomorrow, but it may not be until next week since doctor Wise is going out of town, but maybe and most likely he will take Gomer in at least for x-rays.
Please help relieve Gomers pain!Anything you can send it will help, please remember that in situations like this, nothing is too little so anything u can send , anything at all will help Gomer get his x-ray and surgery.We won't know how much the surgery will be yet but we will update as soon as Doc does an evalutation and takes x-rays.We are broke right now and cannot help Gomer without your help!!!

Gomer had his x-rays and it revealed that he had a leg and hip fracture at some point while he was a stray.Appearently he had been dragged and hit by a car ! Since he couldn't get medical attention a that point, the fracture healed on its own, but causing intense damage to the leg. Update 05/30/07
Gomer went to see doctor Wise yesterday while he examined him, he had some sort of feeling in parts of his leg, but not so much on the others.So there is a mix of nerve damage and shattered bones,They are lots of little broken bones here and there and his tibia is also pretty messed up, their is some nerve damage but in only some parts of the leg.Unfortunately for this boy whether the leg has to be amputated or operated on, nothing can be done right away becuase of his poor condition.Physically Gomer will not be able to withstand any surgery right now.Doc says he is not in pain though.And after I saw him yesterday he doesn't seem to be.So that is good.It looks to me very uncomfortable as he drags his leg and his little toes are messed up from dragging them.Doc will re-examen Gomer in a month from now and by then hopefully God willing he will be able to have his surgery.
Many things need to happen before his leg can be fixed, first he needs to gain lots of weigh, he currently has a cold so his cold needs to get better too, He has a skin condition that also needs to heal before doing anything or he will risk infection!
So here is where we are at with this boy.Gomer is presently in a kennel where in his condition, is not going to help him much get better as kennels are already very stressful for any dog!Many other dogs are at the kennel presently so the risk for illnesses is high.The last thing Gomer needs is something else to happen to him.
Gomer needs a foster home where he can be with his caregiver one on one, the foster home will only be temporary until Gomer is back in good health.Once the surgery is schedule Gomer cannot be in the kennel, it will not be a good thing for him.I repeat we will take the dog back once he is in good health!!!
Gomer needs personal attention and good nutritious food as right now he is only eating donated food, any food and diferent brands.
A personal friend and well known acupuncturist that helps us lots with our special need rescues, is willing to work with Gomer once or twice a week doing accupuncture on him.But for this Gomer needs to be taken to her office once or twice a week.At this point Gomer is in a kennel in Fort Lauderdale and the volunteers there don't have transportation, so this option will be impossible for Gomer, because nobody is able to take him in once or twice a week for treatment.Brigitte's office is in North Miami, FL.GOMER IS A MESS and needs help , together we can help him!!!He has lots of potential but right now he needs help and is a mess!
Sorry this is so long.As of today here is what we need:
1) A temp foster home for Gomer until he is all better, a permanent home will be even better but I doubt anyone will want to adopt him right now even though he is a wonderful dog!The foster or temp home has to be local as Gomer CANNOT travel in this condition.Gomer is in Fort Lauderdale FL right now.
HPR (thanks to the donors) will keep providing the medical assistance and care that Gomer needs, so the foster will not have to pay for anything.
2) If possible a long term sponsor for Gomer will be ideal since donations may not come in after a while!If anyone can sponsor him long term please this is crucial , please let us now or if you know somebody that can sponsor him please let them know to see if they can help.
3) We are going to start feeding Gomer life abundance, this food is very very expensive if anyone is interested in donating this food , please let us know and we will tell you the address where to send it and from where to order it.
4) Suggestions and advise are always welcome.
