Lucky's Update & Message

Look at my Guardian Angel

I had lots of them looking out for me but they were human angels.

YOU!!

With the donations and all the prayers going for me how could I miss.

I am feeling so much better.

I don't have pain(course they do have me on pain meds for my surgery but- it's not the same pain. That pain is gone.

Thank you all sooo sooo much for caring about a little dog like me who I don't think most of you ever met .

I was just a old dumb dog thown in a shelter to be forgotten in February. And now I have so many people who really care about me I feel real special.

I watched my mommie cry when the donations came in. She couldn't believe how much so many could care about one little dog. She loves me dearly - I can tell.

I know she wants you all to know her love goes out to you all & mine does too.

It will be a long road for me 6 months til I am completely back to normal but we're gonna make it.

Mom is putting the details below for you all to read.

Again All my love to all of you out there.

If it weren't for you I wouldn't have been here much longer.

Love & Puppy Kisses

Lucky

(I think I like that name Lucky)

Update

Well he is home. The doctor said he has a few vertebras that are not in the best shape but it's kinda like a arthritis thing with pain meds(NOT steroids) He can live a normal life

They cut off the bone to relieve the pressure on the spinal nerves. Moved it up & reconstructed it. It was the 4-5 vertebrae up from the tail.

Like he said he was hit really hard and with not getting care immediately created more problems. But his owner didn't think he was worth it.

He has a 6-7 in incision on his back. He is on antibiotics and medicine.

He will go back in two weeks to see how he is doing & to have the stitches removed.

At that time he will check to see if he is coming along OK or if he needs therapy or what.

He is not allowed to run, jump play or do anything for 2 weeks & has one of those stupid collars on. Which will have to stay till he goes back on the 13th for his checkup.

The Doctor said most cannot walk after this type of major surgery right away. Lucky did. They were thrilled.

He said he is really pleased with the way he is recovering and doesn't see this happen this great too often.

I have posted a couple pictures below for you to see (no I didn't put the ugly scar on)

Thank you all

I will update this every few days to keep everyone updated on his progress.

Lucky 11/29/05

He looks happy again!!!

11/30/05

Didn't think I would be doing this tonight.

Lucky had to be run to the vets tonight. He started throwing up & wouldn't eat. Then he started to act disoriented. He is allergic to the pain meds. They did the same thing as the deramaxx did several months ago. So they took him off the meds for now. He is still on the one (its a mild one) and gave me something for his stomach. They tested him eating with & without the collar. He will eat without it but not with it. Sooo I have to take it off & feed him (starting tomorrow) & then put it back on. He has to be in his cage 24/7 for two weeks & even though he hates it must also wear the collar. He is laying here beside me in the cage & if you could see the looks I am getting.

"What's this- you rescue me from a shelter? And now I am living back in a cage? I thought you liked me?"

It's breaking my heart but its for his own good & the cage is big enough for me to crawl in part way & pet & love him which I am doing every now & then. I even got the day bed out & put beside him so I can sleep near him. ( He normally slept on the bed with me. ) So maybe this will help him. 2 weeks is a long time for him. And of course after 2 weeks I will have a spoiled brat.

He seems to be more comfortable now. So I hope from here on out it will be all up hill.

Well Finally I had to cook rice & hamburg but he ate.

One step in the right direction. But I cannot get the meds in him. He eats whatever I give him & spits the meds out. I have tried everything. Cheese, peanut butter, vienna sausage, cold meat, I even took the pill apart & put on carrots which he loves- he refused the carrots. I will not put it down his throat- I don't like being bit. Tried that too & I got bit. Not bad just enough to let me know he won't let me. Sooo tomorrow I am picking up something from the vets that should work. Lets hope. Anyways he did not throw up anymore so that's good.

He is really doing good otherwise.

12/02/05

Yes- it worked he got his meds Finally.

Well I got the treats & it's a little pocket - put the pill in & close it up.

First he wouldn't take it but after a couple trys - he decided he liked the taste & down it went.

Ate a good supper- didn't get sick & seems more contec=nt now in his cage.

Hopefully we are now on the road to recovery.

Update on Dr Visit

12/13/05

Well we went back to the doctor.

He was real pleased with Lucky . Took out the stitches & off with the collar!!! Yes- Lucky was happy!!

He can be out of the cage but no jumping or rough stuff for two weeks when he goes back.

He is not on any meds but if he hollers he will be put on a mild pain med. He had yelped a little a couple times tonight but his back is tender so I will watch closely. Tomorrow I will put him in a cage so he don't get hurt with the other dogs while I am at work. We've come to far to have anything happen now. He seems happy to be free & tonight he gets to sleep on the bed again. He will really like that.

He is doing real well & walking really good. He is allowed to run alittle but so far he is just happy to have the collar off & be out of a cage.

Will post tomorrow nite to let you know how he is doing.

UPDATE!!

I didn't post as I have been watching him. I got him pain meds on Wednesday & I have been getting them in him .

But over the weekend he has yelled one to many times so I called the vet & he is going in tomorrow nite for a recheck.

He is doing really good but lays in the crate most of the time.

I know he is still getting over the surgery but I am concerned that he is having quite a bit of pain so I want to be sure all is OK. I will post after the vet checks hm out.

Hopefully its from the healing.

UPDATE!!

Tuesday 12/20/05

Went to the doctor tonight. He says he is fine but is having tenderness from the surgery and also some imflammation in his back as he could not take the pills that he was to take. They upset his stomach.

So he put him on a steriod (mild) just for a few weeks to help him. He is also going to go to physical therapy starting on Friday for 2 weeks to see how he does.

He will have extensive therapy, including water, to help him get his back back in shape and to help with his movement.

He is doing good just the inflammation and needs to get some more strength in there.

He is not worried about anything being wrong and feels this will help him out alot. He wants to be there with him when he has the therapy to watch how he is doing. He is really working great with Lucky & is very interested in how he is doing.

Will keep this updated with his progress.

Please keep him in your prayers.

Thank you all for caring.

Update

12/27/05

Lucky went thru his second therapy and did really well.

He didn't stumble at all & his vet wants him to have 1 per week for the next 5 weeks . He feels it is really helping him to heal & get the strength back in his back. He seems to be in a lot less pain very seldom has he been crying.

Will update in a couple weeks as to his progress.
